Most important steps to care for Koi?

Caring for koi is a big responsibility, but what are the main steps to follow in order to have your koi happy and living for a long time? What part of raising Koi should I focus on more…?
have a good sized filtered pond, large enough for a koi to grow to it’s full length, and deep enough to hibernate and protected from the local wildlife! (grids and such). and keep your water in good condition, yes even ponds need water changes, just not as often as tanks.
koi will NOT thrive in a tank environment, unless it’s a really really really big tank, that’s the size of a pond!
